HIP Program
HIP stands for Healing, Intervention and Prevention. This program, funded by United Way, allows child mental health specialists to provide services to children in the schools. The goals of this program are to help children attend school more often, get better grades, build esteem, and get along better with others.
HIP services are provided on a generous sliding fee schedule based on a family’s ability to pay. Free services are also available for qualified families. Some children may be referred for counseling or other helpful assistance from agencies which charge for those services. However, no services will be provided to children without parent’s permission.
The HIP program is designed to support children, teachers, and parents. If you have a question, please call your child’s school counselor, or give us a call at (360) 423-0203.
The HIP program may help your child:
- attend school more often and get better grades
- behave better in the classroom and at home
- learn how to feel better about themselves and build self-esteem
- learn how to get along better with other children
- learn how to manage feelings like depression
- prevent future problems due to behaviors or feelings
HIP services may include:
- helping your child get the services they need
- counseling or therapy for your child at school
- group therapy with other children with similar issues
- helping teachers know how to help your child in the classroom
- helping parents know how to help your child at home
- recommendations about other services to best help your child
The HIP program is possible with the generous support of United Way of Cowlitz County.
